The APK Library is currently in the process of changing from one classification system (Zastrau) to another (Dewey). The purpose of this blog to provide information to stakeholders regarding the planning, developments, possible impact and relevant facts regarding Dewey (DDC). It must be noted that our aim throughout this project is to finish this project with as little disruption possible to our clients. NB - The Law Collection on level six will remain in Zastrau order.

Some books are still arranged according to Zastrau
I am sure you have noticed that after the books were arranged according to Dewey, on each level there are still books that are arranged according to Zastrau (e.g. LEL NGUB) as well. The reason for this is that these books do not have Dewey shelf labels at the moment. At present we are in process of addressing this by printing shelf labels for these books and then shelving them at the Dewey side. You will notice in the next few weeks that the number of books shelved according to Zastrau will become less. We are planning to finish this process by the end of March 2011.

All books that still had Zastrau shelf numbers on levels ONE and FIVE have now received Dewey numbers. You will notice that on these levels all books are currently arranged according to Dewey only.
ReplyDeleteI am happy to announce that all books on levels 1, 2, 3 & 5 now have Dewey numbers. At this stage it is only on level four that we have the situation where some books are still shelved according to the previous system (Zastrau). Currently we have two teams working on this level, assigning Dewey numbers to these books.
